I woke up around five a clock and it was all silent and pitch black outside. I lay there in the tent and waited, listened and slowly I could hear more and more sounds, birds started to sing half past five just before it started to get light outside, then some rattling and mumbling from the tent next door. It was time to get up and get some clothes on. When on safari you don’t get sleep ins, the morning drive normally starts just after six a clock. However, it is definitely worth getting up this early. The light is fabulous and the wildlife is most active in the mornings and evenings.

The Masai Mara, in Kenya, is a great place to visit if you want to do safari and experience the African wildlife. In Masai Mara it is still possible to see “the big five”. Elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo. You will also see the great plains and all the herbivores living on the plains. We visited Masai Mara in December and most of the wildebeest and a lot of the herbivores were in Serengeti, Tanzania, but there were plenty left to see and photograph.

There are also other things to photograph, not only wildlife. Each morning several hot air balloons takes of with tourist, that wants to get a view from above.
